Nobody wants 50 notifications in an hour. Buddzy uses throttling to keep alerts useful without being overwhelming. Different notification types have different limits, and some actions can bypass the throttle entirely.
Standard Star Notifications
When someone sends you a Star, you get a push notification — but only once per hour at most. If three friends send you Stars within the same 20-minute window, you'll get one alert for the first one and the rest will appear silently in your notification feed inside the app. This keeps your lock screen clean while making sure you don't miss the important stuff.
What Bypasses the Throttle
Two things cut the line and get delivered immediately, no matter what:
- Flair-attached Stars — When someone spends 1 Orb to attach a Flair to their Star, it bypasses the hourly throttle completely. The sender paid extra to make sure you notice, and Buddzy respects that.
- Bulk Stars (15+) — If someone dumps 15 or more Stars on you at once, that notification goes through right away. A gift that big deserves immediate attention.
Top-1 Notifications
Rank change notifications for hitting the #1 spot on a leaderboard are limited to once every 24 hours. This prevents constant buzzing during active leaderboard battles where the top position keeps flipping back and forth.
Your Preferences Matter
All throttling respects your per-type notification preferences. If you've turned off Star notifications entirely, throttling is irrelevant — you won't get them at all. You're always in control of what reaches your phone and what stays silent.
