Location data is one of the most sensitive categories of personal information out there, and a lot of apps are way too eager to collect it. Buddzy takes the opposite approach. We use the absolute bare minimum location-related information, and what we do use might surprise you with how little it actually reveals.
How It Works
The only location-related data Buddzy uses is your timezone. That is it. Your timezone tells us when your calendar day starts and ends, which is essential for one specific feature — Streak resets. Your Streaks need to know when midnight hits in your part of the world so the daily exchange window resets correctly. Without your timezone, Streaks would not work properly.
Here is what Buddzy does not do with location:
- No GPS coordinates — We never request or store your precise location
- No background location permission — Buddzy never asks to track you when the app is closed
- No map-based features — There is no "find friends nearby" or location-based discovery
- No location history — We do not build a timeline of where you have been
- No geofencing — We do not trigger actions based on where you physically are
Why Timezone Is Enough
Some apps claim they need precise location for features that could easily work with less data. Buddzy proves that approach right. All we actually need to know is "what time zone is this user in?" and we can calculate exactly when their daily Streak window opens and closes. Your timezone tells us whether you are in UTC+2 or UTC-5. It does not tell us your street address, your neighborhood, your commute, or your favorite coffee shop.
What About Traveling?
If you travel across time zones, your Streak reset timing will adjust to your new timezone. This is automatic and based on your device's timezone setting. You do not need to update anything manually in Buddzy. Just make sure your phone's timezone is set correctly and your Streaks will stay on track.

- You can travel internationally without worrying about Buddzy tracking your movements. We literally cannot.
Good to Know
When we say we do not track your location, we mean it at every level. There is no hidden background process, no approximate location inference, and no IP-based geolocation tracking. Your timezone is the beginning and the end of what we know about where you are, and that is a deliberate choice we are proud of.
