Short answer, no. Streaks in Buddzy absolutely cannot be one-sided. It is literally impossible. Both friends must participate every single day for a Streak to exist and continue. If only one person is sending Stars, there is no Streak. Period. This is one of the most fundamental rules of the entire Streak system, and it is designed that way on purpose.
The Bilateral Requirement
A Streak requires mutual daily Star exchanges. That means you send at least one Star to your friend, and your friend sends at least one Star back to you, every single day. If you are sending Stars religiously but your friend never sends any back, your Streak counter will either never start or will break immediately. The system checks both sides independently. Both must deliver before midnight for the Streak to survive.
Why Not One-Sided?
Buddzy designed Streaks to represent genuine mutual friendship, not one-sided admiration. A one-sided Streak would be meaningless because it would only prove that one person is putting in effort. The whole point of Streaks is to show that two people are equally committed to maintaining their connection. It takes two to build something real, and Streaks enforce that principle at the core mechanic level.
What Happens If Only You Send Stars
If you send a Star to a friend but they do not send one back, nothing happens on the Streak front. If you do not have an active Streak yet, one will not start because the initial setup requires both sides to exchange. If you already have an active Streak and your friend misses a day, the Streak goes at risk regardless of how consistent you have been — and if they miss a second, it resets. Your consistency alone cannot carry a Streak. You need a partner who matches your energy.
Identifying Unilateral Friendships
It is important to recognize when a friendship is effectively one-sided on Buddzy. If you keep sending Stars to someone and they never reciprocate, that is a sign they might not be engaged enough for Streak maintenance. Do not waste your time and Stars trying to force a Streak with someone who is not going to show up daily. Instead, focus your energy on friends who are equally excited about building Streaks.
The Mutual Commitment Talk
Before starting a Streak with someone, have a quick conversation about it. Let them know you want to build a Streak and make sure they are on board. A simple "hey, let us keep this going every day" goes a long way toward preventing frustration later.
Finding the Right Streak Partners
The best Streak partners are friends who are active on Buddzy daily and who respond to Stars consistently. Look for friends who already have active Streaks with other people, because that shows they understand the commitment. The right partner makes Streak maintenance feel natural rather than like pulling teeth.
